Increased flexibility in spinal procedures with the expanded uCentum and uBase systems
With the further development of the uCentum and uBase systems, ulrich medical launched a wide range of newly developed and improved implants and instruments on the market in October 2024 under the uCentum PRO banner. The system expansion offers users a high level of flexibility when adapting to patients’ individual anatomies.
The innovations available with the expanded uCentum and uBase systems are wide-ranging, so we will simply focus on the key elements here. Thanks to an extensive navigation module compatible with the Brainlab navigation software, uCentum now offers improved safety during open and percutaneous preparation of the surgical procedure and screw insertion, plus it helps to reduce radiation exposure. In addition, there are now rods with a diameter of 5.5 mm available for uCentum, whereas only rods with a diameter of 6.0 mm were available in the past. Both diameters can be freely combined with all screw versions. The iliosacral and iliac screws of the uBase system are now available not only in the fixed-angle version but also in a version with a pre-angled screw head with 48° polyaxiality. They are suitable for both open and percutaneous application. “These and all the other innovations offer the surgeon added flexibility, as uCentum and uBase span a wide range of implant components for individual adaptation to the patients,” said Klaus Kiesel, Chairman of the Executive Board at ulrich medical.
More spinal procedures with more options
The development team at ulrich medical focused on users’ requirements and needs at all times when expanding the system. And initial feedback confirms their success: “uCentum has been significantly expanded to make day-to-day work easier for us spinal surgeons,” commented Dr. Jesús Lafuente Baraza, Chief of the Neurosurgery department at Sagrat Cor University Hospital in Barcelona.
